Too Busy--Slow Down!

In the aftermath of the Minneapolis, MN bridge disaster, heart wrenching stories are emerging. And yet in spite of tragedy, there are also miracle stories, like the children on the bus, all escaping, uninjured for the most part, while their bus leaned precariously on the edge of the buckled bridge. Video keeps coming in on the local and cable news of moms hugging their children, thankful that they are alive. Valuable lessons are learned in tragedy and the high value of relationships is one of them. In the busyness of everyday life, we tend to take relationships for granted. Relationships are spelled T-I-M-E. Rick Warren says that "busyness is the greatest enemy of relationships. We become so preoccupied with making a living, doing our work, chasing our goals and dreams, as if these are the whole point of life. They're not! The point of life is LOVE GOD and LOVE PEOPLE!... [see October 26, 2006 blog.]

Relationships, not achievements or the acquisition of things, are what matters most in life."

How about we slow down today and tell our children, spouse, parents and others that we love them? How about we pray the prayer by the late Peter Marshall?

"In the Name of Jesus Christ, Who was never in a hurry, we pray O God, that You will slow us down, for we know we live too fast. With all of eternity before us, make us take time to live--time to get acquainted with You; time to enjoy Your blessings; and time to each other; Amen." --Peter Marshall, 1902-1949.

Remember, busy means:
B: being
U: under
S: Satan's
Y: yoke

But Jesus said, "Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." --Matt.11:28-30.
